How Homes Are Chosen

An onsite assessment of each applicant home and its needs are conducted by Repair Affair volunteers and staff. The assessment process is labor intensive, but helps us match the needs of homes with the skill levels of volunteer teams.

We look for repairs that will improve the safety, security and weather efficiency of the homes. Repair Affair is not a decorating, remodeling or emergency repair program.

Repair Affair staff provides volunteer Team Leaders with the assessment information of a couple homes that may meet the qualifications of the team. Team Leaders review the assessments, visit the homes, and choose the home their team will repair.

Volunteer Teams

Repair Affair is not yet able to reach all the homeowners who need help, but we seek to involve new teams of volunteers each year. Some teams are very skilled at home repairs. Others may have no experience at all. That's okay - we can match your team to an appropriate home!

Churches, corporations, agencies and social clubs - we need you!

We also have other volunteer opportunities available. Opportunities include: preparing lunch, being a runner, and writing thank you notes.

Event Day

Most Repair Affair teams work on one of two event days. We kick off Repair Affair in Southern Indiana on Saturday, June 11, 2011 followed by Louisville Metro Repair Affair on Saturday, June 18, 2011.

On Event Day, the homes have been chosen. The materials have been purchased and delivered. Battery drills are charged, paint clothes donned and sunscreen is at the ready! Teams meet at the Breakfast of Champions. Here, teams can enjoy a quick breakfast, sign in and get a much coveted t-shirt. This is a festive time where volunteers meet other teams and see the diversity of Repair Affair's great volunteers. Half of Repair Affair's impact is achieved on Event Day. The rest of the jobs are scheduled to fit into other volunteers' schedules.

As a Repair Affair volunteer, you decide when your team is able to work.
